What a complete packaging set includes
A strong custom packaging set is more than a bottle. It usually includes the bottle body, cap, sprayer or pump, label or print, insert, retail carton and export packing method.
- Bottle and closure system
- Label, print or foil decoration
- Retail box and insert structure
- Carton protection for shipping
How brands move from idea to sample
Most fragrance teams start with a reference image or one preferred bottle direction, then confirm capacity, finish, artwork and box shape before paying for full sampling.
- Reference image review
- Capacity and shape confirmation
- Artwork and decoration planning
- Sample approval before bulk order
1. Choosing the glass material
Three glass grades cover most perfume projects. Standard white glass takes colour spraying, plating and frosting well and keeps cost predictable. Fine white glass is cleaner and more transparent, with a heavier feel that reads more premium on shelf. Crystal glass has a higher refractive index, so cut facets throw light and the bottle reads as a luxury object.
- Standard white glass — works with colour, plating and frosting
- Fine white glass — clarity, weight and a premium feel
- Crystal glass — cut facets, refraction and limited editions
- The glass grade interacts with the decoration method you choose
2. Perfume bottle volume selection
Volume follows the use case rather than preference. Sample formats carry only a few millilitres, travel formats sit in the 10 to 15ml band, and the commercial core of most fragrance lines sits between 30ml and 100ml. Settling the volume early decides the bottle, the cap proportion and the retail box dimensions at the same time.
- 1-5ml vials and discovery sets
- 10-15ml travel and handbag sprays
- 25-30ml entry and travel-retail SKUs
- 50ml core commercial size
- 100ml value and refill formats
3. Different types of bottle necks
The neck decides which pumps, collars and caps can be fitted, so it is confirmed before decoration is planned. A crimp neck is closed with a crimping machine and holds the seal tighter, which keeps the scent in better. A screw neck can be opened and refilled, which suits refillable and recyclable formats.
- Crimp neck — tighter seal and better scent retention
- Screw neck — refillable and recyclable formats
- Common neck diameters: 13mm, 15mm, 18mm and 20mm
- 15mm is the common crimp neck; 20mm the common screw neck
4. Customization process for perfume bottles
Decoration is where a standard bottle becomes a brand object, and the choice of process balances appearance, durability and budget. Surface processes change the colour and feel of the glass; print and metal processes carry the logo, artwork and premium cues.
- External coating — colour, gradient, glossy or matte
- Internal coating — tone depth and a protective inner layer
- Electroplating — metallic finish for premium lines
- Partial coating and ice-flower effects for contrast
- Polishing — hand or fire polishing for clarity
- Water transfer and decals for full-surface pattern
- Screen printing and hot stamping for logos
- Plating plus engraving for a layered metal and cut effect
5. Sprayer and collar selection
The sprayer and collar decide how the bottle feels in the hand and how the spray performs. Pump output, spray pattern, actuator colour, collar finish and tube length are specified as a set, because changing one usually changes the fit of the others.
- Pump output and spray pattern
- Sprayer material and finish
- Collar type and ring material
- Tube length cut to the bottle depth
- Actuator and collar colour matched to the cap
6. Different types of caps
Cap construction changes the silhouette of the whole pack. A cap with a collar encloses the pump collar and gives a taller, more traditional line. A cap without a collar sits directly over the pump, which gives a cleaner and more compact profile.
- Caps with collar — taller, classic silhouette
- Caps without collar — cleaner, compact profile
- Shell and magnetic constructions
- Cap weight balanced against the filled bottle
7. Perfume cap materials
Cap material changes weight, cost, finish and the sound the cap makes when it closes. Plastic keeps cost and tooling predictable, aluminium adds metal weight without a plated finish, wood gives a natural texture, and zamac delivers the heaviest premium feel.
- Plastic caps — cost-controlled and easy to colour
- Aluminium caps — light metal weight and finish
- Wood caps — natural texture and warmth
- Zamac caps — heaviest, most premium feel
